In one observation referencing two other women in history, Erma Bombeck covered the difference between being known and knowing. Author of 13 books including The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank and Eat Less Cottage Cheese and More Ice Cream, she had a way of poking fun at the very values she had learned to live and love, helping others also learn to see through the glass, not just whether it was half empty or full. Of all the women making people laugh at the time, Bombeck did it through words, printed, in books which were meant to last throughout the day and still provide many with nodding wisdom and insight. Erma gets our recognition during women's history month because she recorded a big slice of it and as she said, [s]he who laughs...lasts.
