The playwright goes on to describe each of seven scenes an actor will play in a lifetime. They are infant, school child, the lover, soldier, accomplished elder, old aged, and doddering fool. The psychologist Carl Jung is often credited with developing what the world knows of similar archetypes which were adapted by the personal growth method as a way to understand oneself. The roles we play today are not all linearly successive; we are many things to many people all the time. The most important thing to understand however is that we are not these roles, but that which fleshes them out, to be entertained by, not bound to, their stories. Let your roles change as they may and allow the same for others.
